The Meadow Border saw cultivated roses mimic the open flowers of the early summer dog roses. Common Knapweeds and Field Scabious mingled with Gaura and Salvia. Cornflowers and Poppies peppered the border while Cosmos and Ammi majus evoked their wilder umbellifer cousins.
Traditionally the boundary between the formal garden within and the wilder landscape beyond, the estate fence, inspired here by Hogarth’s serpentine line of beauty, snakes right through the design highlighting the blurred boundary between garden and meadow.
